The bed that helps you sleep better…

Imagine a home that can read your mind, understand you, adapt to your needs and most importantly make healthy living easy and accessible. Think about it, you could get healthier just by sitting on the couch, having a shower or having a snooze in bed. With chilly weather creeping up on us, it sounds like a great winter health strategy! Just add steady supplies of homemade chicken soup and you’re set. Here’s how you could be spending your day…

6am: The Smart Alarm Clock

Wake up with Holi, a smart alarm clock that can give you all the information you need to start the day. You can soak up those last few minutes in your bed while you have a conversation with your clock. When it wakes you, you can immediately find out what outfit it best suited as it updates you on the weather, quenches your Facebook notification thirst from the long dry night and, most conveniently, it can tell you about the traffic, waking you at an earlier or later time in order for you to avoid it no matter what. Or, it’ll simply tell you not to forget your BODYTEC session later. Plus, if you connect it to other intelligent house applications it can turn on your lights, deactivate your security alarm, adjust your bedroom temperature, and turn on the coffee machine. See, waking up can be easy, meaningful and productive no matter how Monday it is. There’s currently a waiting list for this smart gadget, so sign up to be one of the first to have it.

6.30am: Take A Vitamin C Shower

Nope, this won’t replace your daily vitamin pill, but it will make your shower a healthier experience. The Vitamin C inside the filter is there to filter out up to 99% of the chlorine found in water and also removes most chloramines and sediment. The filter uses a tube of ascorbic acid (pure Vitamin C) that interacts with the chlorine and the chloramines and neutralises them. When you shower in chlorinated water without a shower filter, the pores of your skin open up and absorb the chlorinated water like a sponge, and chlorine-filled steam can enter your lungs. People can actually receive more exposure to chlorine during a shower than by drinking the same water. Chlorine is bad because it can aggravate sinuses and lungs, dry your hair, eyes and skin out, and worsen rashes. With Vitamin C, it can do the opposite, as it can work as an anti-oxidant on the skin and makes hair shinier and softer, plus it can play a role in firmer more youthful looking skin.

7am: Water Your Plants (Or Don’t)…

Breathe in fresh air from real life plants that you won’t ever need to worry about killing. The Parrot Pot accessory is the reason you won’t ever need to feel guilty for being that person who just cannot keep a plant alive. It comes with a hidden ceramic pot that holds two liters of water and releases it through four water spouts. If you thought that was cool, consider how it uses its knowledge of more than 7,000 plants to detect when your specific plant is thirsty and how much water should be released in order to keep it fit and flourishing. There’s even a conservation mode that releases only the amount of water necessary to keep the plant alive if you’re not able to refill the water. And most conveniently you can connect it to your smartphone using an app to see all the details. Phew.

7.01am: Add Herbs To Your Breakfast

Grow a vertical vegetable garden in your kitchen and have constant access to healthy leafy greens. This is less of a gadget and more of an innovation to improve on our enclosed concrete lives. Many people live in the city with little to no space for a functional veg garden, and even for those who live further out where it’s greener, having a vertical garden in the kitchen is the ultimate convenience. The more you see the veg or herbs, the more you will want to eat them. The fun thing is you can easily DIY a uniquely fresh model, with shelves, hanging baskets, or trellises. Vertical gardens work because almost any vegetable that can be grown in a garden will also work well as a container-grown plant. Old washtubs, wooden crates, gallon-sized coffee cans, and even five-gallon buckets can be implemented for growing crops as long as they provide adequate drainage. Certain plants thrive depending on the amount of sunlight available, so be aware of that when you choose a spot to hang your veg. If you need help, Grow Up Garden is a local initiative that specialises in vertical food growing systems that empowers you to build up your own personalised micro-farm using their range of connective compact greenhouse units.
