A low carb diet restricts carbohydrate consumption relative to the average diet. Foods high in carbohydrates are limited, and replaced with foods containing higher percentages of fat and protein. The diet consists of meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, high-fat dairy, healthy oils and cuts out foods high in carbohydrates like for instance bread, pasta and starchy vegetables.
