Meet Piet…
Sit-standing in the office should be the new norm, according to BODYTEC® client Piet Nel, who also happens to work in the field of ergonomics. Through Ergonomicsdirect, Piet imports, distributes and sells products that optimise your working environment in the office – including sit-stand work stations.
“I’ve been sit-standing at work for the last two years and have experienced the remarkable difference it can make to your overall health and mental state. Office ergonomics is still fairly unknown in South Africa. There’s so much that can be done to educate the office-bound workforce and positively impact their experience of the office environment and ultimately their general wellbeing. I always like to use the words of Bear Grylls: ‘it’s not only about if you can survive (your days in the office), but can you also thrive?’.”
Piet is also GM of the Jayson Chin and Associates orthotics and prosthetics practice, and the balance of the two roles are very rewarding. “We make a positive difference in the lives of those that we assist, whether it is to get an amputee back onto their feet, or getting someone more comfortable and productive behind their desk,” he says.
Piet loves to trail run on the mountain in Cape Town on weekends, or hike with his kids. He, like many of us, was struggling to fit a good workout into his busy week. “I read an article about EMS training. Having used similar modalities whilst working as a physiotherapist, the concept made sense to me. I started investigating and found BODYTEC®,” he says.
With the aim of dropping some weight and gaining some muscle definition, Piet is happy with the results. “BODYTEC® gave me momentum in my drive to become fitter and healthier and got me trail running again,” he says. “I’ve lost six kilograms and some centimetres and improved my posture, because the training assists with exercising areas that are otherwise difficult to target effectively – such as the upper back area around the scapulae.”
What’s surprised him most about BODYTEC®? “The sessions end up being a fun 20 minutes thanks to the great personal trainers!”
