How BODYTEC EMS training differs from portable electro muscle stimulators

One common misconception about portable electric muscle stimulators or tele-EMS devices that are commonly used for personal home use is that the devices can be used to replace physical exercise. Many portable EMS products such as sensored shoulder and ab patches are promoted to have exceptionally powerful wireless technology that does all the hard work to target areas – so that you don’t have to. But is this an effective way to train and how does Miha-Bodytec’s whole-body EMS device and BODYTEC’s training program differ?

How EMS training works

Electro muscle stimulation is recognised as one of the most advanced methods for strength training, injury prevention and recovery. The training is conducted when electrodes are placed against your skin, allowing impulses to stimulate your muscles and contract them in the same way as physical exercise would.

Which muscles are stimulated?

While Miha-Bodytec EMS technology has the capacity to contract up to 90% of skeletal muscles at the same time, most portable electric muscle stimulators can’t offer whole-body EMS training. These at-home EMS devices focus on individual muscles instead, which can cause an imbalance in overall strength. Miha-Bodytec devices apply a bipolar impulse allowing them to stimulate deeper lying muscles, rather than only the surface muscles, closest to the electrodes.

Which EMS settings are best?

There’s no question that each of our bodies has different needs and as physical concerns differ, it’s becoming clearer that a one-size-fits-all approach will not provide the same results for all individuals. This is why we prefer supervised, in-studio EMS training where members are assessed for abilities and concerns and are guided through exercises that are personally tailored in terms of exercise selection and overall intensity using an individual setting for training.

How safe are EMS muscle stimulators?

While we’d hope that all portable EMS gadgets are accompanied by instruction guides, this simply does not offer the same result and safety assurance that a qualified exercise specialist at BODYTEC can offer in real-time.

If you’re considering a portable muscle stimulator, always remember that these devices should not replace physical exercise. Also, consider the amount of time and energy that is required for you to try and figure out how to use a gadget as opposed to having an expert assist you with a personalised program.
