3 foods to try that will change the way you eat

It’s time to say goodbye to blah food and add some “spice” to your menu. Just like fashion, food trends come and go and it’s time to update your dishes with some of the following.

#1 Warm avocado

If you’ve already acquired a taste for warm avo on your pizza, this won’t be a stretch for you. Plus, it’s the perfect solution for the times you slice your avo and realise it’s far from ripe. Griddled avo is the perfect addition to a salad. Pop the sliced avo on a griddle or braai and it becomes soft and smoky. Try this griddled avocado with green salad and lemon dressing recipe.

#2 Acai bowls

Acai berries are packed with antioxidants that help boost the immune system. They’ve always been a go-to-ingredient for smoothies, but smoothie bowls are the new way to enjoy them. There are benefits to your mind and body to slowing your morning down and savouring your meal instead of drinking it down in seconds. That’s where the smoothie bowl trumps! Try the Hawaii 5-0 Rainbow Bowl recipe here.

#3 Matcha

Matcha is a green tea powder from Japan. To drink it as a tea add one teaspoon of matcha to a mug and slowly whisk in 2 teaspoons of the hot milk to form a paste. Add the rest of the warm milk, tipping the cup slightly to help create foam. Sweeten with maple syrup, honey or coconut sugar. Matcha butter is equally delish on toast, but this is generally a super versatile ingredient. From truffles to hot chocolate, adding matcha to the mix also has health benefits. Because it is made using top quality tea and the whole leaf is used, it is high in cancer-fighting chemicals and has also been shown to speed up the metabolism.
